2011 Merrie Monarch Ho'olaulea

Hilo, Hawaii

The week of 2011 Merrie Monarch started with the free Ho'olaule'a (music festival) on Sunday in Hilo's Civic Auditorium. Hula Halau's from around the island performed their dances with grace and aloha. It is a wonderful way to experience the Hula Halaus of the Big Island and enjoy their hula and meles.

The event started with Hawaiian chants by students of Ha'akumalae, Kekuhi Keali'ikanaka'oleohaililani and Manaiakalani Kalua.
