The Hilo Heart Walk at Hilo Bayfront Park. Onsite registration for the event begins at 6:30 a.m. and the walk kicks off at 8 a.m. A health fair & entertainment will run from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Three-mile or 1.5 mile walking routes are offered depending on ability. Free “hands-only” CPR lessons, and a keiki fun fair will also be offered. The event is designed to bring families and friends together to learn, share and practice lifestyle habits that will lead to healthier, longer lives free of heart disease and stroke. Participants are encouraged to raise money to support the AHA’s work to end heart disease and stroke, and improve Hawaii island resident’s health. On-line registration can be done at this site, or by calling the Heart Walk coordinator at 1-866-205-3256 for information. ==========

AARP Hawaii and the Hawaii Alzheimer's Disease Initiative Present a Positive Approach to Dementia Care™ Workshop Challenging Behaviors in Dementia Care, Recognizing Unmet Needs Learn to understand which physical and emotional needs can cause challenging behaviors. Learn hands-on techniques to connect and comfort using visual, verbal, physical and emotional connections. Learn to develop new skills related to approach, cueing, and ability to connect with people affected by dementia to help reduce the chance of future escalations and make your person with dementia feel at ease. Positive Approach to Care™ seminars, developed by Teepa Snow, can provide essential information on how to have a positive and meaningful relationship with loved ones with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.
