HILO CHINESE NEW YEAR FESTIVAL

The annual Chinese New Year Festival was held Februrary 14 in downtown Hilo. This year's event was bigger than last year and very well attended. Even the rain that was on and off did not deter the crowds.

HILO DOWNTOWN

Downtown Hilo was busy on Valentines Day. The combination of the Heart Walk in Liliuokalani gardens, the Chinese New Year's festival, Saturday Farmer's market, the Hawaii County band concert in the band stand, and all the Valentine events filled the town.

HILO FEBRUARY RAIN

Hilo Rain

The rain has come with the trade winds. Last February we were deluged with rain. We are wondering whether this February will be the same.

The super bowl was watched in the Hilo area by folks with TV's located where digital signals could reach. Many non-cable viewers lost channels during Hawaii's switch to digital in January. Digital signals just aren't as flexible around terrain as analog.

The big news in Hilo was BJ Penn's loss in Las Vegas the night before the super bowl. Penn is a Hilo boy and he has become famous in the MMA world. He has a fitness business in town as well as a lot of supporters that were hopeful he would win Saturday night.
